What a year....

One year ago today Brian and i left for yet another journey to adopt a little girl. I just got done ready all the blog post and comments allot of you left and all i can say is THANK YOU. Remembering us sitting in the apartment over there and checking this blog is what kept us going for the 6 1/2 weeks we were there. I cant believe it has been a year already since we left. We have had a wonderful year with Sabina and i thank god everyday for both of my kids, they are truly the little blessing i always dreamed of having. Adoption is a true blessing in ways some people don't get. When you cant give birth to a child you start to think you will never be able to have kids. When i started to think that is when i decided i could have children and change a child's life for the better. That is when we decided to think about adoption. It was funny how it all worked out because just as we were talking about adoption we mentioned it to friends of ours and the next day she came over to our house with a paper clipping about an adoption picnic that we should go to. Well it happened to be we didn't have nothing to do on that Saturday so we went and that day changed our lives forever. Thanks you Jennelle, i don't know if you even remember bring that to us but we do. Anyways so the journey for caden started and after we were done with the paperwork and traveling we swore we couldn't do it again. funny thing was i didn't want caden to grow up with out a sister or brother. I think in the back of my mind i said i am young maybe just maybe i will get pregnant. Well three years past and nothing so i took matters into my own hands and said we are adopting again and this time we are going for a girl. Brian was not happy at first because money and what is wrong with just one. kid. He says now how great she is and we couldn't live without both of our children. Anyways days like today i sit back and think about how my kids life would be without us and that alone makes me very blessed to have them and be able to give them wonderful families and better lives.
Well i just wanted you to all know how truly wonderful you all are and if anyone is still reading this thank you. Thank you all for writing to us and keeping in touch while we were over in Kaz. We have 2 amazing kids because of that country and i could thank them enough.

I got a email this morning from a lady who was in Kustanai over the summer and at the baby house Sabina is at. Anyways she came across our blog and realized she spent allot of time with Sabina and her group while she was there helping build a play area for the kids. So she emailed me pictures of Sabina from last summer. I just wanted to share them with you all. It is very unusual to have pictures of your child you are adopting before they are yours. So i really appreciate what this lady did. Also just an FYI Sabina will be home in the morning of March 6th. We will be picking her up at the GR airport and bring her home. If anyone want to stop by feel free we will home. We can't wait to see her again. Talk to you soon.

Just wanted to update you guys on what is going on. Sabina is now legally ours as of Feb 9th. They have started the paperwork over there to get her home. We are hoping she will be coming home March 6th or sooner. We can't wait to pick her up at the airport. She is very missed. Nothing new is really going on here at home. Just working and catching up on stuff. I will let you all know when we have a date for sure. Also mark your calendars we are having a Sabina party at my parents on March 28th. Further details will be coming later.

WE ARE HOME

We have arrived home safe. Our flight back went good, everything was on time and we arrived into Grand Rapids 20 minutes early. It has been a couple busy days since we got back. We jumped right back into work and we are trying to get Caden back on our schedule. He was very glad to see his mom and dad. Our computer is down right now so i am writing from my dad's house. We will keep you all posted on when Sabina will be coming home. Again thank you all again for your love and support.

Yesterday we left the orphanage area of Kustanai. We had to fly to Almaty for two days. Our flight from Almaty to Frankfort leaves Sunday at 420am. We will be arriving into Grand Rapids around 340pm Sunday afternoon pending weather hold up. We are sitting here in the lobby of the hotel having a drink. We have all day today doing nothing. We walked around town for a few hours. Our feet are killing us since we really havent been walking or doing a whole lot for the past 6 weeks. Leaving Sabina was very hard as she has found a place in our hearts. We knew leaving her that she was in really good hands with her caregivers. They care for her and really watch out for her. She will be coming home at the end of Febuary. Well we are heading to lunch so we will talk to you all when we get home. Thank you all for your love and suport through this whole process.

SHE IS OURS

We just got out of court(11:30am) and we were congratulated and told that the judge said yes to the adoption and no one had any objections. We do have to go back at 2:30pm for the reading of the decision, Just a formality nothing big. Then we are heading to the orphanage to hand out gifts and visit with Sabina for the last time until she is brought to us. We are hoping for her to come home around the last week of Feb. We are very happy and can't wait until she can start her new life. We leave tomorrow to go to Almaty and wait until our flight Sunday. We fly out at 4:20am and get home at 3:40pm Sunday. We will be able to get on the Internet in Almaty so we will talk to you all later. 3 more days and we are coming home.

We have a court date set.....

Well we are finally getting some were. Today we had pre-court and it went well. He was concerned about our paperwork but Janet told him he will have it tomorrow. She was going to the airport at 6pm to get it. So he schedule court for next Thursday the 22nd at 10:30am. He said our agents license has to be here by then or he will have to reschedule court. Our agent emailed us and told us she talked to someone and it was sent out, so I have to believe she will get it before then. He is also going to except a fax of it and then she will have to just send a notarized copy overnight when she can. But the good news is we should be able to fly out on the 25th like planed. After court we will come back to the apartment and do laundry and pack. Then Friday we will fly out of Kustanai at 9:30am and fly over to Almaty for our embassy interview. We have to do that now because we are having her escorted home. Then we will stay in Almaty for 2 nights and fly out of Almaty at 4:10am on Sunday and be on our way home. So that’s all for now. The judge seemed really nice and knew that we have been here for 5 weeks and really felt bad and said he was sorry and he would try to get us home soon. No they can not make it so Sabina can come home with us but we did try. At least we got this far. Things are starting to look up. Now if only weather and everything else in between now and next Sunday can go smooth we will be home in no time. Love you all and thank you for caring and praying for us. PS. We did go visited Sabina today and she is doing good. I do feel bad for leaving her but she will be home in short time. Talk later

We were told today that pre-court will be next Thursday at 2:30pm. The down side to this all is we are going to be here for another 2 weeks. We maybe able to fly home on Jan. 24th if all goes well. We don't know anymore then that. If everything gets here and pre-court goes off without any big problems then he should schedule court the week after. Anyways that is all of an update for now. Still No Good News

We were told today that the judge will not schedule our court or pre-court until we have all of our documents updated. Before we left there was a few document that need updated because they were over 1 year old. Well i did my part and got them together and notarized and handed into the agent before we left. Our agent was to then translated and sent over here. Well apparently they were going to the embassy and i didn't know that part. Well to make a long story short those documents are still at the embassy and we are here waiting for them. We are not sure how much longer we are going to be here. Like i said before we still have no GOOD news. I will update when i hear anymore. Love you all and thank you for your love and support through this.

Well Janet handed in our paperwork and found out who are judge was. All i know is she said he is good and a guy. He has a few days to look over our paperwork then will set up a pre-court date. Janet said she is hoping that after the pre-court it will be another week. But nothing is set in stone yet. We are hoping to hear something by the end of the week and when we do we will let you all know. Nothing new is or has happened. Sabina is the same, good as always. Just wanted to get on and say Happy New Years to everyone. Hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday. We miss everyone and hope to see you all soon. Sabina is doing good. We won't see her for two day because of there holiday here, but we will be back to visiting on Friday. It's very loud here at night. They light off fireworks for the holiday like we light up our houses. they do it at all times of the day and night. I think we are the only american in this city at the time. We are going to the market mall to get Sabina an outfit for when she comes home in Feb. Well be safe and we will talk to you next year. LOL

Hello everyone,
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Anyways just wanted to give you a short update. We found out Friday that the courts here close down from Dec 23 to Jan 5th, so our paperwork will not be looked at until then. After the judge looks at the paperwork she will set up a date for precourt and hopefully court. We don't think we will be home before the 16th of Jan. There laws and procedure are so diffrent then ours at home it is hard to understand there thinking, but we are here and can't leave until after court. Missing Caden and our families and friends is the hardest thing. We can't just pick up the phone and call someone to talk or drive to the mall. Being stuck in this apartment is hard. Lucky for me i sleep until like 11:30 am everyday and by the time i get up and around it is almost 2pm. So my days are going by pretty fast. We have gotten out and walked around there town alittle. Not a whole lot to do. They have market malls but its not like we are here to shop. Anyways i didn't want this to sound like a pity party because its not, we are fine we have each other and we do get to visit Sabina everyday. And by the way she is doing fine nothing has really changed. We are on a 20 day count down, we are hoping to leave in like 20 days. Anyways have a good New Years. Love and miss you all. Hi everyone,
Sorry we have not wrote in a while, our internet was down. Anyways not a lot has changed. We have been visiting Sabina everyday. She is doing good and starting to really warm up to Brian. She can say a couple words in English but she will just forget when we leave so we don’t push to hard. We got out of the apartment today and walked around town. They don’t celebrate Christmas on Christmas so everything was open. They celebrate on the 31st and the 1st. We went out for dinner at the Beer Pub, cool place. We hope you all are having a wonderful holiday and we wish you all a Merry Christmas. We sure do miss home today. Brian is doing everything possible to keep my mind off of Christmas and what is happening back at home. I hear you all are getting a butt load of snow, that’s cool. We don’t have any here and they said that is why it is so cold. Yesterday was like -19C. Freezing out. Hi all...
Thank you all for the name suggestions. We were told we have until Wednesday to decide if we are going to change her name. Alot of people have been asking for details so here goes. This is an average day, wait this is all we do everyday. We normally wake up around 10:00am and eat cereal. They have cherrios and milk, there milk is warm and in a box but we just put it in the fridge and brian being the milk lover he is says its normal. Then we both take our bath/shower. The bathtub is huge and it doesnt have a shower head so we sit and take a bath and shower at ones. The water is nasty brown. I will get a picture for you later. Then we sit around the apartment until 3:30 when our coordinator picks us up to bring us to the baby house. We visit with Sabina for 1 1/2 hours a day. We go to her group room and we bring her to a little play room to visit. The divide the kids up according to age and put them in certain groups. After the visit we either go back to the apartment or we go to the market and get some food and supplies. Then we normally come to the apartment and cook dinner and then we get on the computer and check emials and the blog. We watch movies some night or we just sit and watch tv which is in Russian. Then around 11:00 pm we go to bed. That about sums up our days. We have been doing the same thing day in and day out since last Friday. I am sending pictures to my parents and they will post them on here as they get them.
All i can say is life is very diffrent here, but in someways the same. They told us when we got here that it is legal to grow pot but it is not legal to have it in your pocket, we laughed. She told us the pot just grow, they don't plant it or do it on purpose. Anyways i will save some for tomowow. Talk later

Here is the picture of Sibina. Again we are not sure if we are keeping her name or not. We also don't know alot about her. the lady that has access to the files won't be in until next week. Hi everyone,
I know yesterday we made it sound like we had our mind made up and even as early as this morning we thought we did. We went to the baby house today to bond with the youngest little girl. We played with her for a good 2 hours and we both left the place feeling very unsure about our decision. We went back to the apartment and called home. After talking to my parents and doing a lot of talking to each other, we decided we had to really rethink things. Brian and I asked ourselves what we seen when we closed our eyes. When we both opened them we said we see a little girl running to the pool with Caden or running around the yard playing with Caden. Not me changing diapers and tending to a baby while Caden plays by himself. If we would really be honest with ourselves the reason we started this adoption was so Caden had someone closer to his age that he could play with and be close to when he got older. If we brought home a baby he wouldn’t be able to play with her for a long while and there would be a huge age gap. With all that being said we chose to go with the 2 ½ year old. When they brought the 2 girls out to us the oldest one just walked in and had the biggest smile on her face, she melted our hearts. We should have listened to our hearts right then and there. We came here thinking we wanted the youngest one we could get, but really the more we talked about it the more we realize with our life style and Caden she will be the best choose for us. Her given name here is Sabina. We have not decided to weather or not to keep that yet. The name fits her but still unsure. When you all get to meet her, she will melt your heart like she did ours.

Day 5 (I think)

Hi everyone,
We have been to the baby house and we have been given two children to choose from. I know that sounds weird to those of you who have not been through this. One of the little girls is 2 ½ and the second one is 1 ½. Ok the oldest is smart and cute. She can walk and talk (not that we understand her). She is Eurasian. She is older then we wanted, but I could see her and Caden getting along. On the other hand there is the youngest one that my heart went out to. She is very behind and she has very lazy eyes, a lot like Caden had but worse. She can pull herself up on a couch, she can copy us if we clap or do a movement, she follows object well. She babbles like a baby, so she can’t talk yet and she don’t walk. She is blond hair, blue eyes. She does a lot of things Caden did when we adopted him. We were told she sleeps well and eats well. We have had two days to decide and tomorrow they are going to ask for our answer. We are pretty sure we will choose the youngest one but chose to sleep on it. The youngest one has yet to be picked for adoption and they said it was because of her eyes being crossed. We had to deal with Caden’s eyes and his medical issues, I am sure we can handle hers. I just hold her and wonder what would happen to her if we don’t adopt her. Will she live in an orphanage all her life because someone couldn’t deal with her crossed eyes and her delay. I just think with a little attention and love and she will be keeping up with Caden in know time. With Caden he picked us and I came over here thinking that would happen again, but I also have read a lot of things on the internet that that kind of bond happens very seldom. I am positive we will make the right choice, it’s not like we can put her on e-bay if she don’t work out. LOL. Talk to you later

Hi all,
We arrived in Almaty last night at 3:00 am. We went to a really nice hotel and got about 4 hours of sleep. Could use way more then that. Anyways we are heading to the orphange city Kostanai at 2pm this afternoon. Right now it is 10:45 am Fridayand your time is 11:40 pm Thursday. Very confusing, we have been up 34 hours straight. We will be here for about 23 days and then get to go home. We have decided if we cam come up with the money, that we are going to have her escorted back home. this trip was really hard and tiring on us. i cant do this again. I know it will be worth it but for the money it is also worth having her brought to us. Well we will talk to you later. Love you Caden

We received some good news yesterday. Our agent called and said our LOI arrived and they want us to travel soon. I sent out for our visa today and booked our flight for next Wednesday. Just wanted to write to say Happy Thanksgiving to you all. We went over to Brian's sister's house for the day. She made a wonderful meal and we got to visit for awhile. After that we went to Grandma Symon's for dessert and to visit. Caden had a big day and did wonderful. We think he may be coming down with another cold. I would like to be writing with an update but frankly i don't have one. I have been trying to get answers for days now and the agent is not calling me back. They told us the country would like us to travel at the end of October but that has not happened. Sometimes the wait can be so hard. Everyday i check my emails at least 20 times just in case we get the call. I know the day will come and i have to be patient but those of you who really know me, knows i don't have the best patience for waiting. So there's my update, still nothing. Anyways for those of you who know are family we are losing more family members from this state of ours. My Aunt Mary and her family are moving to Florida at the end of the month. It really sucks that they have to move but we all have to do things to keep going. I have talked to uncle Todd last week they are doing good in the Dominican. Anyways i just wanted to post to let everyone know what is going on. keep looking i will eventually post some good news, only god knows when. Keep us in your thoughts.

On October 3-5 we went on a wine tasting tour up in Traverse City. When I say we I mean there was 9 of us. We had wonderful time, the weather couldn't have been any better. We drove up in a short bus my parents bought, so much fun. Nate and Brianne, Carl and Jenny, Brian and I, my mom and dad and Tony all went. We stayed in a house on the lake that you can rent through the casino. All day Saturday we went to 9 different wineries and tasted some great wines and had a blast doing it. Afterwards we ate, did some gambling and then had a bonb fire to finish the night off, what more could you ask for.

We decided at the last minute to go up to Mackinaw to camp. Brian's parents and sisters family were all up there already. This was Caden's first time camping, he had fun. We went over to the Island on Saturday to visit with my parents who were over there on there boat. Caden enjoyed the boat ride over and loved the horses. Sunday we just hung out did a little shopping and got fudge. Monday we had the bridge walk so we had to get up early in which caden was not thrilled about. Caden did however walk the whole 5 miles. He did really well, we were very proud. We are hoping to go every year from now on. Brian and i went up there the first two years we were together then we ended up adopting Caden so things kinda got off track, but going back this year make me realize why i loved going and Caden can look forward to it every year.( hopefully next year he will have a sister to enjoy it with). In case some of you don't know Caden has guinea pigs, Moe and Stewart. We thought we had to males but as of yesterday we found out Moe is a female. Brian picked her up and she had a big belly and we could feel something moving around. Thanks to Google we realized she was pregnant. Well as of 5 am we now have 5 pigs. Wow what did we get ourselves into. They are cute and healthy and Caden is in love with them. We will keep you posted.

Today we should have been writing to say we were leaving in a few hours. Instead i am writing sadly to say our trip got canceled due to the fact our referral got given to another family. I am so sad and frustrated i could scream. I need to believe that everything happens for a reason. They said they are looking for a referral for us in the same area so if they find a baby we will be able to travel like next day. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts.

We have a travel date. We will be leaving at 2:07 P.m. on Wednesday June 18Th. When we touch down and find a place to hook up to the Internet i will update you all. Caden will be staying with my mom and dad, Brian's parents are taking our dog and we have some wonderful friends looking after our house. Weather my plants make it alive is still up for debate (mom water every Friday). So thank you all. I want to also say thanks to our family and friends who have always been there for us. With Caden's adoption i thought the wait was going to kill me but this time it almost did. I was ready to give up the whole thing not to long ago. I am glad i didn't but the wait was so hard on all of us. The reward at the end will make this all worth it. Hope everyone keeps in touch. Lots of love

We just heard yesterday that the country plans on inviting us over at the end of June beginning of July. From what she said that is when there is a couple of babies coming off the registry. All the children have to wait until they are 6 months before they are allowed to be adopted and they are put on a registry until then. I will keep you posted.

As most of you know we still have not got a travel date. We are waiting for our Letter to arrive yet. ( i think they sent it snail mail) We are just waiting for that letter then we book our tickets. It amazes me what can hold you up in like, makes me wonder who's desk corner the letters sitting on being over looked. We keep hoping everyday it arrives but i guess we will just have to wait until tomorrow and wait and see. Keep you posted

Today i got an email say our letter of Invite was issued. That means we will be traveling in about 3 weeks. I will let you all know when we have a leave date.

Well for those of you keeping track of when we might be traveling i think it is safe to say very soon. We found out today that we will be traveling to the region Kustanai, also spelled Qostanay. Our agency says our paperwork is in the invite pile. We are keeping our fingers crossed. I will update all of you when i have a travel date set.

For those of you who are wondering when the heck we will be traveling, well join the club. We still haven't heard a word. I have sent out email and have not heard a thing. We just wait and wait. It was this way with Caden, we we're told one date and ended up waiting months until we actually traveled. So anyways just thought i would do a update for you all. We will let you know when we here something.

This is our son Caden, this is our first day with him in Kazakhstan Dec. 6, 2004

This is Caden(adopted Dec 2004 from Kazakhstan) and his dad on fouth of July 2007

Today is Sunday and this is the first time i am writing about this for everyone to read. Kinda wierd but here goes. I am just going to let everyone know what has been going on. We sent our paperwork to our agency to be sent over to Kazakstan on June 18th. It has been over there almost five months now. Our agency told us we should be traveling by the end of summer but because we are going over there for a infant girl we could be waiting longer. At the end it is all worth the wait. Over all this time around is going faster then Cadens adoption. For those of you who dont know we have adopted before. December 28, 2004 we brought home our son Caden. He just turned 4 on October 6th. He is growing up way to fast. As soon as i figure out how to post pictures i will. Well i guess that is all for now. We will write later.
